Earn while you learn, gain a qualification, open the door to new opportunities...

What is an apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships are government funded work-based training programmes that combine on the job training with nationally recognised qualifications.

As an apprentice you will:
  • Work alongside experienced staff
  • Gain job-specific skills
  • Earn a wage and get holiday pay
  • Study towards a related qualification (usually one day a week)

There are a wide-variety of apprenticeship programmes covering business administration, customer service, marketing, finance and many more. If you are unsure what career to pursue, why not talk to a Careers Adviser.

Apprenticeships take between one and four years to complete and are available to everyone from the age of 16 onwards. You may already be employed and looking to enhance your skills and progress in your chosen career or you may be starting a new job which requires training.

Apprenticeships come in varying levels enabling you to progress your learning and qualifications over time. The levels include:

Name Level Equivalent Educational Level
Foundation 2 5 GCSEs at grades A* to C
Advanced 3 2 A Level passes
Higher 4, 5, 6 and 7 Foundation degree and above
Degree 6 and 7 Bachelor's or Masters Degree
